A Fast Method of Calculating High-Order Backward LP Coefficients for Wideband CELP Coders

چکیده
This paper proposes a fast method of calculating high-order backward Linear Prediction (LP) coefficients for wideband Code Excited LP (CELP) coders operating at around 16 kbit/s. The fast calculation is achieved by a recursive calculation for the high-order autocorrelation of the decoded signal. The recursive calculation can be employed thanks to a novel method of converting the autocorrelation of the decoded signal to that of the residual signal. High-order backward LP coefficients are computed from the autocorrelation of the residual signal using the Levinson-Durbin (LD) procedure. The conversion approximately performs inverse-filtering using LP coefficients representing a corresponding envelope spectrum. Due to the recursive calculation, the proposed fast calculation method achieves 30% to 45% reduction in computations to calculate the high-order backward LP coefficients compared to the conventional method. Subjective tests show that a wideband Multi-Pulse based CELP (MPCELP) coder at 16 kbit/s with the proposed method achieves comparable coding quality to that with the conventional one with 35% reduction in computations needed for calculation of the backward LP coefficients. key words: speech coding, complexity, high-order prediction, backward prediction

This paper describes two wideband CELP coders at 16 kb/s. Their main feature is fast searching, achieving quality comparable to G.722 at 56 and 48 kb/s. The coders have multi-band algebraic excitation in order to reduce computational complexity and bit allocation. Analysis and error minimization are done over the full band.

In this paper, a packet loss concealment (PLC) algorithm is proposed to improve the quality of decoded speech when packet losses occur in a codeexcited linear prediction (CELP)-type speech coder. The proposed PLC algorithm is based on artificial bandwidth extension (ABE) from narrowband to wideband, consisting of packet loss concealment in the narrow-band, ABE in the modified discrete cosine tr...
متن کاملA 16 kbit/s wideband CELP coder using MEL-generalized cepstral analysis and its subjective evaluation
We have proposed a wideband CELP coder, called MGC-CELP, which provides high quality speech by utilizing mel-generalized cepstral (MGC) analysis instead of linear prediction (LP). In this paper, we investigate the performance of the wideband MGCCELP coder at 16 kbit/s in terms of short-term predictor order, i.e., order of MGC analysis. Subjective tests show that the MGCCELP coder with a predict...

Development of network quality speech coders at 16 kb/s and below is an active research area. This thesis focuses on the study of low-delay Code Excited Linear Predictive (CELP) and tree coders. A 16 kb/s stochastic tree coder based on the (M,L) search algorithm suggested by Iyengar and Kabal and a low-delay CELP coder proposed by AT&T (CCITT 16 kb/s standardization candidate) are examined.
